Why no woodwinds in dci

First and foremost would be the number of performers. Would you add more members to accommodate woodwinds? Or, would you reassign within the member limit that exists already. Then, comes balancing the woodwinds into the brass. Do you compensate the woodwinds volume disparity with sheer numbers? The common argument for is one of inclusion: Of the makeup of all corps-aged musicians, including all wind instruments, only roughly 20 percent play brass instruments.

When putting together the best marching talent in the world, why leave out roughly 80 percent of the population?

But once again on the field it doesnt work out.

The entire entity originates from Fife and drum corps. When the bugle replaced the fife on the battle field, it became a bugle and drum corps. Which then became a sport of " Oh look at my bugler play better than yours. It all started with a way to communicate on the battle field and some idiot going " mine is better than yours" drum corps, the abridged version.

About Help Contact Forum. No Woodwinds in DCI? Will Panter Sep '11 I was talking to our middle school director after half-time last Friday. Will Panter Sep '11 Also, why no trombones? Will Panter Sep '11 Haha, I could see how they could be dangerous, and thanks :D fisher aza 5 Sep '11 For woodwinds, reeds would not be the problem.

Austin Arias Sep '11 To me woodwinds just take up room, woodwinds aren't very loud and in order to become loud enough to be significantly heard it wood require someone with a high amount of control, overall a better sound can be achieved from brass when it comes to dynamics in drum corps, woodwinds do however add a new color to marching music but doesnt fit DCI.
