Ron WeasleyAvid Harry Potter fans will be familiar with the slow-burning romance between Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, which finally culminated in their marriage at the end of the wizarding series. But now author J K Rowling has said that her famous protagonist ought to have ended up with Hermione instead. She took to complimenting him and flirting with him, which Ron seemed surprised and flattered by, though he was interested in Hermione Granger at the time.

However, after Ron became angry with Hermione, he entered into a romantic relationship with Lavender. Draco Malfoy had just taken Hermione Granger into his arms and was kissing her passionately. He had said he wanted her. In the movie for Prisoner of Azkaban, she does. In the book, it goes down differently. In both versions, Malfoy is laughing about Buckbeak being executed and making fun of Hagrid. Of the two of them, it was Hermione who realized she liked Ron first as she dropped heavy hints in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire of her attraction.

There was much less laughter and a lot more hanging around in the library when Hermione was your best friend.

I saw just how good it was that Hermione finally had someone in her life who was interested in what she actually had to say. But it also highlights how, sometimes, she can be an outsider within her own friend group, and that for the first time, someone was actually seeing her as a person and valuing her intelligence beyond asking for help with their homework.

Rowling likes to write out the accents of characters, which … is a choice, but can sometimes make the characters sound like cartoon characters. There is a moment where Hermione talks about teaching Krum how to say her name and him not getting it, and in the library, he more watches her work than do work himself. That and him being a character who only shows up for two books is probably what led Krum to get thrown into the shipping wastebasket.

Plus, not every relationship needs to end up with marriage and babies. Besides, any relationship where people send each other letters is perfect to me. Who are your favorite couples in the series?
