I wonder if the biodiesel we are forced to run here in the midwest might have additional lubrication vs elswhere in the USA? Reason I ask, I had not heard of this problem until seeing the class action lawsuit advertisement.
While I am not totally immersed in the diesel pickup arena, I have one and have friends who have them. While it is true that Biodiesel inherently has more lubricity then regular Low-sulfur Diesel, making it an added benefit to your fuel system, we have not seen any biased for where the pump failure has occurred.

Seems the and newer Duramax have an in-tank fuel pump along with the new high pressure pump. Do you think the and newer GM in-tank fuel pump would fit my Chevrolet tank? I have a silverado.
Had this pump blow up at about 95, miles. Fortunately it was still covered under factory warranty. I now have , miles on the same truck. I was thinking I might replace the pump again to avoid the big ticket repair even thought everything seems fine. Preventative maintenance seems alot cheaper than an entire fuel system replacement.
What are your thoughts, good idea or just paranoid? That is a great question. Preventative maintenance without a doubt will be your most economical option. Replacing the pump now and starting off fresh by far will save you a lot of time, money and headaches in the future. This will ensure you have the most up to date pump and the best fighting chance of avoiding any pump failure.
We would also highly recommend considering installing a FASS Fuel Pump if you do not already have one and using Stanadyne in every full tank. This together will ensure the longest life out of not only your pump but your entire fuel system. If you have more questions regarding any of those products or your LML Truck please give us a call anytime at Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can help get your truck back on the road! Thanks for stopping by Alan — we will send over all of the information we have right away! Best of luck. I am investigating doing a preventative CP3 swap. Just had a lgh shut down with a 8 bad injectors , metal shavings in the fuel pressure regulator and a broken crankshaft.
The owner keeps it well maintained, but his concern about the longevity of the 6. The catastrophic failures of the Bosch CP4. The CP4. The low volume and ultra-low-sulfur diesel prevent the CP4. Over time, the roller tappets on the actuators, which are forced up by the cam-like driveshaft inside the pump, start wearing from lack of proper lubrication. A grenaded CP4. In addition to its durability shortfalls, performance-minded owners will quickly find the CP4.
Fleece says the PowerFlo CP3 easily handles the rail pressures and fuel flow to support hp across the entire rpm range. Fleece basically turns a new CP3 into a stroker by machining new actuators buckets and suction valves, along with porting the fuel-pressure regulator and machining a new shaft assembly to increase the stroke from the factory 8. With these types of modifications, a stroker CP3 flows upward of lph on the bench, compared to a stock Duramax pump that maxes out around lph.
That percent increase in flow should be more than enough to support the fuel this truck owner will need with his plans for future power upgrades that include compounds and fatter injectors.
